AUSTIN, Texas - Austin's next city manager could be named within a week.

Both finalists wrapped up their final interviews with the City Council Wednesday.

Spencer Cronk and Howard Lazarus are the last two candidates out of a pool of 200 applicants, according to the city.

Cronk runs the City of Minneapolis while Lazarus is city manager in Ann Arbor, Mich.

Both say they plan to engage the community, especially folks who have traditionally been left out of city discussions.

"In Minneapolis, we have done everything from engaging artists to help us think differently about what an artist can do in the community," said Cronk.

"Being out, being seen and being connected with the community and the public is an important part of doing the job," said Lazarus.

The new city manager is expected to be on the job by mid-February. He stands to make up to $400,000 a year and manage a staff of almost 14,000 employees.
