- People were swimming early in the morning

- Area had minimal lighting
At around 5:43 a.m. Wednesday, San Marcos police received a call about an unresponsive woman at Treehouse Apartments on 800 N LBJ Dr. The victim’s friends found her in the deep end of the pool.
Because the woman’s friends could not swim, they flagged down a passerby who pulled her from the pool, began CPR, and called 911.
The first officer to arrive took over CPR until EMS arrived. EMS found no signs of life after evaluating the woman. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
People had been in the pool in the early morning hours — several didn’t know how to swim. They had also been drinking alcohol.
Pool hours at Treehouse Apartments are from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Police say the pool was murky and lighting around it was minimal. Police believe the woman’s friends lost track of her and her drowning went unnoticed for a few minutes.
Police have not yet released the victim’s name.
