TEXAS – Many Central Texans are waking up to a frosty morning, which might delay them on their way to work.

With temperatures in the low 30s, drivers are finding their vehicle’s windshields frozen over. There are several ways to defrost windshields without scraping the glass to help commuters get on the road.

For those who don’t own a de-icing spray, there are still ways to get rid of that pesky ice.

Use a credit card:

  • Turn your defroster and heater up all the way
  • Find a credit card that you don’t use that often in case it gets damaged
  • Hold the edge of the card angled against the window and scrape off the ice
  • Then use windshield wipers to scrape remaining ice away

Another less popular way is to use warmed rice packets:

  • Microwave rice for 30 seconds in zip lock bag
  • Wave the warmed rice packet over inside of the windshield
  • The glass will warm and de-frost
  • Don’t hold the bag against the glass for too long or it could crack

A way to prevent a frost windshield is to cover car windows at night. Drivers can use a towel, sheet or even a cardboard.
