AUSTIN, Texas -- This may come as no surprise. but Texas ranks 11th in the U.S. for the worst states for drivers.

The study was done by the personal finance site BankRate.com. The rankings were based on data related to cost, safety and driving quality.

Theft, cost of insurance premiums, repair costs and gas prices contributed to Texas' ranking. California was ranked as the worst state for drivers, and it's not because of the long wait times. According to the study, 44 percent of roads in California are in poor condition.

The study said the best states for drivers are North Dakota, Iowa and Ohio, which made the top three.
