SAN ANTONIO — In the past few days Texas Tech fired Kliff Kingsubry, Texas State let go of their football coach and hired a new one, and Mack Brown is back in the game.

As the coaching carousel spins this time of year, some coaches get dropped off, while others get picked up. All the while, some high school recruits are stuck waiting in line.

“It’s not only football, it’s bigger than that, it becomes a business.” Steele High School senior defensive back Chace Cromartie said.

Cromartie committed to Texas State back in June, but when they recently fired Everett Withers, he changed his mind.

“I had a close connection with Coach Withers and some of the coaches there,” he said. “Currently they’re changing staff and I completely understand but it definitely made me nervous and want to open my recruitment back up.”

This past week, Cromartie decommitted from Texas State. He’s hoping this will give him more college options and offers.

He is still considering the Bobcats and will take a visit there next weekend. Recruits can officially sign during the early period starting December 19, or wait until February 6.
