AUSTIN, Texas — The Austin Police Department is investigating a fatal crash in North Austin that left one man dead.
- One man has died after an attempted robbery
- A woman fled the scene in a tan car
- Northbound I-35 closed just before U.S. 183
According to police, at 1:45 p.m. they were called to a Shell Gas Station for a robbery and assault. They say a black male and a white female robbed a person. The man fled on foot and the woman fled in a tan car.
Police spotted the man asked him to stop, but the man refused and ran away. He then ran onto the interstate and hit a tractor-trailer and died.
Police say the person who was the target of the robbery was punched in the face, but is OK.
Northbound I-35 closed just before U.S. 183. Drivers should expect delays. Avoid the area if possible.
Police say the tractor-trailer did not stop but they say the driver may not have known he hit the man.
