AUSTIN, Texas – Sentencing is beginning on Monday for the mother who was convicted of killing her 2-year-old toddler, Colton Turner.

  • Colton Turner was found buried in 2014
  • Sentencing begins for Meagan Work
  • Pled guilty to son's death

Four years after her son’s death, a judge will hand down the sentence for Meagan Work. Just three months ago Work pleaded guilty to Colton’s death, weeks before her trial was scheduled to start. Work pleaded guilty to tampering with evidence and injury to a child in August.

Colton’s body was found buried in South Austin in 2014. Work and her boyfriend at the time, Michael Turner, were arrested shortly after the discovery.

After pleading guilty for tampering with evidence and reckless injury to a child, Turner was sentenced to 20 years in prison. However, he could be released as soon as 2022 for good behavior.

It is unknown if Work will face a similar sentence, but the judge could decide to have her spend between five years and the rest of her life in prison for injuring a child.

Court is expected to begin at 9 a.m. Sentencing is expected to last up to four days.
