RANGER, Texas — A man who says his family didn’t have much when he grew up in West Texas returned to his hometown to give away 120 packaged turkeys from the bed of his pickup truck.

KTXS-TV in Abilene reports Cecil Ray Fuentes now lives in Hobbs, New Mexico, but hasn’t forgotten Ranger, located 80 miles southwest of Fort Worth.

Fuentes says his family, at times, relied on others to make ends meet — so he’s paying it forward. Fuentes on Saturday loaded his pickup with 100 turkeys and offered them free in Ranger.

A simple green sign said: “Free Turkeys. Happy Thanksgiving!”

Fuentes, who ended up buying 20 more turkeys to give away, says it felt good to see smiles on the faces of people he’s known his whole life.
