SEGUIN, Texas — More than two dozen children were adopted in Seguin on Monday for Child Protective Services's annual Adoption Day.

  • Child Protective Serives hosted its Annual Adoption Day
  • The day is meant to raise awareness about adoption
  • More than 25 children were adopted at the event

Each family went before a judge to answer questions about why they believe they are the right fit for the child before the adoptions were finalized.

Apolonia Rebolloso and her husband Elio waited five years to adopt Mia. She is their granddaughter, but they say she has felt more like a daughter to them since she was born.

The Rebollosos took her and her two brothers in after their son gave up parental rights to the children. The two boys are already legally adopted, but it's been a struggle to adopt Mia.

"We were always afraid that one day, we were going to have to let her go," Apolonia Rebolloso said. "We had a lot of court battles with the paternal aunt. This is our second time around. She should have been adopted two years ago."

"The children and families that are coming through today, they've been in the foster care system, some have been in for multiple years. Some have been in for less than two years," Roxi Gearhart, adoption supervisor for Child Protective Services, said.

Adoption Day is meant to raise awareness about adoption and allow the new parents to have one less thing to worry about this holiday season.

"When you can finalize an adoption, what a blessing and what a thing to be thankful for," Gearhart said.
