DRIPPING SPRINGS, Texas - In Dripping Springs, winning volleyball matches is the norm.

  • Volleyball a part of the culture in Dripping Springs
  • This year's team has gone 98-2 in last 100 matches
  • Will face Lucas Lovejoy Friday

"We're super successful, but it's expected," junior setter Avery Kalsu said.

The Tigers have a proud tradition that's been passed on for years now.

"I think they understand this is what's been handed to them and they want to leave it better than they found it," Tigers head coach Michael Kane said.

This year's team had a front row seat for the Tigers last state championship, in 2015.

"I went on the fan bus,” senior libero Madison Berkholz said. “I never imagined we would go there."

Dripping Springs is a volleyball powerhouse. They've gone 98-2 in their last 100 district matches and are making their fourth trip to the state tournament in the last seven years. They’ll look to bring home the third title in program history.

"It would mean everything, knowing we leave our mark on the program," Berkholz said.

Leaving their mark, just like they watched the teams before them do.

"It's always been volleyball, volleyball at Dripping Springs,” Kalsu said. “So many kids get started so young.”

On Thursday, the road to state will stop first at all the area elementary schools to see the next generation of Tigers stars. It's a sendoff that's become tradition in Dripping Springs.

"It’s so cool to see the community get invested," Kalsu said.

The Tigers will play Lucas Lovejoy in Friday’s Class 5A semifinals.
