AUSTIN, Texas – Austin Independent School District campuses are getting greener.

  • AISD teaming up with Austin Energy
  • Electric vehicle charging stations on campuses
  • Accompanied by curriculum to measure data

The Austin Energy program called “EVs for Schools” launches on Wednesday. Four AISD campuses will now have electric vehicle charging stations for students, staff, parents, and visitors to use.

The green schools include Akins High School, Lanier High School, Travis High Schools, and Kealing Middle School.

The program also offers a new curriculum about green energy. Students can learn about electric vehicles, how to use the charging stations to collect data and study its usage.

“They can pull metrics. They can measure usage off of the charging stations,” said Amy Atchley with Austin Energy. “They can actually create their own science projects from utilizing the stations.”

The program is the first of its kind in Texas.
