AUSTIN, Texas - Texas House Rep. Lyle Larson, R-San Antonio, is introducing a bill that would eliminate daylight saving time in Texas.

If passed, House Bill 49 would take effect November 4, 2019, which coincides with the end of daylight saving time in 2019.

Similar bills have been introduced in the past.

First adopted by the United States in 1918, the idea was to set clocks ahead of standard time so that people would have an extra hour of daylight following workday activities.

However, critics have noted that the shift can disrupt travel, record keeping, and sleep patterns. It has been linked to several health concerns.

Currently, Hawaii and Arizona do not observe daylight saving time.
