AUSTIN, Texas – An odor smelled by students and staff led to evacuations at Decker Elementary School on Monday.

Around 11 a.m. ATCEMS tweeted that, along with the fire department, they were called to the school on Decker Lane for reports of up to 12 people complaining of symptoms related to an odor.

Firefighters identified the source of the odor as paint thinner and aired out the area of the school. Manor Independent School District said the odor was from a floor sealant and not paint thinner.

A total of 19 people are being evaluated by EMS and up to 14 have been transported to a hospital for non-life threatening issues related to the odor.

School buses transported the students and staff to Decker Middle School.

The patients included adults and children.

Manor ISD said “Decker Elementary students have been moved to Decker Middle out of precaution after a handful of students and staff fell ill today.”
