TEXAS – Central Texas could see its first freeze of the season as soon as Monday night into Tuesday morning.

A freeze warning has been issued for Williamson, Travis, Hays, and Bexar counties. Temperatures are expected to drop below freezing by Tuesday morning.

An Arctic cold front moving through Central Texas on Monday is creating a strong north wind of 15 to 30 mph putting wind chill values in the 30s by the afternoon. Some areas may drop into the upper 20s by Wednesday morning.

Meteorologists say the best way to prepare is to remember the three “P’s.”

  • Plants: Cold-sensitive plants should be covered or taken inside.
  • Pipes: Exposed pipes should be wrapped with a blanket or towel.
  • Pets: Keep pets inside and never leave them in cars

It is also recommended that pipes be allowed to drip from outdoor and indoor water faucets to keep them from freezing. Cabinets below sinks should also be left open.

People are also reminded to protect themselves and kids from the cold by bundling up.
