AUSTIN, Texas – A lockdown has been lifted at an Austin Independent School District elementary school after a police chase in the area.

Ridgetop Elementary School was placed on lockdown around 8:30 a.m. Austin police activity was reported in the area after a suspect fled from a Motel 6. Officers said they were searching for someone in a stolen car from an incident that began around 7:30 a.m.

The suspect ran from police and hid under a shipping container where he got stuck. Austin police tried to dig the suspect out with a shovel, but had to call the fire department for help.

Eventually firefighters were able to use a mechanism to lift the container and pull the man out. The suspect was hospitalized and charges are pending.
