AUSTIN, texas -- The Domain Northside traded cars and trucks for inlines and roller skates Sunday for their inaugural Gr8 Sk8 event.

Children and adults alike had a chance to skate the streets of the Domain after crews turned one section into a giant skating rink.

Music rung out throughout the shopping center as attendees skated around playing games and visiting booths set up by Domain stores. Domain Marketing Director Julie Sutton said Gr8 Sk8 is the perfect type of event for a city like Austin.

"We thought maybe shutting down a lifestyle center where the main focus is business to have a big skating party is weird and quintessentially Austin," Sutton said.

Proceeds from skate rentals and donations all benefit Austin Angels, a group that works to improve the foster care system as they help the children it serves get adopted.

The Domain said they always try to give back to the community every time they throw an event.
