AUSTIN, Texas — The Hays County Sheriff's Office seized more than 100 animals from a property in Buda.

According to the office, November 1, 2018, at approximately 2 p.m., deputies went to a residence on the 200 block of Towhee Drive to follow up on a service call regarding inhumane animal care. When animal control officers arrived, they found 161 cats and 15 dogs in various health states.

The sheriff’s office says the occupants of the residence identified themselves as a nonprofit organization responsible for the care, custody and welfare of the animals.

The investigation is ongoing and all of the animals have been removed from the residence for welfare concerns and investigative purposes.

The San Marcos Regional Animal Shelter said it will be closed Saturday, November 3 to accommodate the large emergency intake of the animals.
