AUSTIN, Texas – The United Soccer League is giving soccer in Austin another go.

Austin Bold FC is breaking ground on a new 5,000-seat stadium at the Circuit of the America’s despite Major League Soccer team’s plan to come to the city in the future.

The franchise formerly known as the Austin Aztex is hoping a permanent home will help garner support to make soccer sustainable in Austin.

The Aztex last played in 2015 in high school stadiums and failed to gain any traction with local fans.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for soccer to succeed in Austin,” said Austin Bold FC general manager Roberto Silva. “We will have major league facilities, a 5,000-seat stadium, concessions that include adult beverages, and we’re recruiting players of an incredibly high caliber. This is a fantastic chance for the game to grow and flourish in this market and we are excited to bring all of it to the great soccer fans of Austin.”

The Bold are set to kick off in the spring of 2019.
