SAN ANTONIO – Former District 19 Texas State Sen. Carlos Uresti is no longer fighting his fraud conviction.

Court papers show Uresti dropped his appeal last week. In June, Uresti was sentenced to 12 years in federal prison for his part in an oil and gas Ponzi scheme.

On October 12, Uresti pleaded guilty and admitted that from 2006 to 2016 he conspired to facilitate bribes to a former Reeves County judge in exchange for a Reeves County Correctional Center medical services contract.

Uresti also admitted to collecting $10,000 per month as a marketing consultant and gave half of that money to the judge as a facilitation of the bribe. He was ordered to pay over $6 million for federal charges.

He is expected to be back in court in January 2019 for sentencing for the federal bribery charge.
