AUSTIN, Texas – The Emergency situation at Travis Early College High School has ended and the lockdown has been lifted, according to Austin ISD. 

The district says students and staff are safe and are asking families to continue to avoid the area and wait for further instructions.

Earlier Friday the school went on lockdown due to a situation near the campus. 

Austin Independent School District tweeted at 10:11 a.m. that the school was on lockdown due to a situation with an adult male near the campus. Austin police said the man turned a weapon on himself and was last listed in critical condition at a hospital. Police stressed the man never had contact with students or staff. 

The school is located at 1211 E Oltorf St. in South Austin.
