AUSTIN, Texas – A University of Texas student was stabbed in the arm by a homeless person Monday night.

At 9 p.m. a student said he was talking on Guadalupe Street when he was approached by a homeless person. The student told police the person threatened and pushed him before stabbing him in the forearm.

Austin police arrested the suspect within five minutes of receiving the 911 call. The suspect is currently in custody.

The student sustained non-life threatening injuries.

University of Texas police are reminding students of the SURE Walk or Ride program that offers an escort for walks home or a ride through a partnership with Lyft.
