AUSTIN, Texas -- President Donald Trump is coming to Texas to campaign for Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, as promised.

Trump will be holding a rally for Cruz next week as the incumbent Republican Senator tries to fend off a strong challenge from Rep. Beto O’Rourke, D-El Paso. Trump's campaign announced Monday night that it will take place at NRG Arena in Houston on October, 22 at 6:30 p.m. CT. The date is also the first day of early voting.

In August, Trump tweeted that he'd hold the rally for Cruz 'at the biggest stadium in Texas we can find.' But NRG Arena said it features an 8,000-seat arena.

Nearby NRG Stadium, by contrast, is home to the NFL Houston Texans and can hold about 80,000.
