AUSTIN, Texas – A police officer is recovering after being hit by a car as Austin City Limits wrapped up Sunday night.

  • Officer hit by car directing ACL traffic
  • Zilker Park great lawn closed for entire month
  • Barton Springs lanes reduced while crews break down stages

An Austin police officer directing traffic on MoPac at BeeCaves Road, southwest of festival grounds, was hit by a car around 8:57 p.m. CT. The officer suffered minor injuries and is currently recovering at Dell Seton Medical Center.

The driver immediately stopped and remained on scene. There were no signs of impairment and speed is not believed to be a factor. The investigation is on-going and at this time, the driver is not facing charges.

Motorists are reminded to drive carefully around Zilker Park Monday morning. While the festival might be over, there will still be crews breaking the stages down.

Barton Springs will be reduced to one lane both ways from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday. On Tuesday, only the eastbound lanes will be reduced to one lane from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

For those who visit Zilker Park regularly to jog or walk their dog should be aware that the great lawn will remain closed until the end of the month. However, Barton Springs Pool and the Greenbelt are open.
