SAN ANTONIO -- Hundreds showed up to support promoting inclusive environments in downtown's historic market square on Saturday.

  • San Antonio's first disability pride parade
  • Mayor Ron Nirenburg and first lady were Grand Marshals

The parade was a Tricentennial event and was a part of Disability Awareness Month.

It was San Antonio’s first disability pride parade, presented by disABILITYsa, the City of San Antonio’s Department of Human Services Head Start Divisions and the City of San Antonio’s Disability Access Office. These organizations seek to change the way people think about and define disability.

It was all part of the annual Access Ability Fest put on by Disability SA. The festival promoted ending the stigma attached to people with disabilities.

Floats, bands and dance teams marched down as hundreds of spectators watched. Following the parade, a resource fair with more than 90 organizations opened in market square.

City leaders including Mayor Ron Nirenberg attended the fest in support.
