AUSTIN, Texas – Water levels are on the rise at the highland lakes following Monday’s rainfall.

The Lower Colorado River Authority Floodgate said operations are underway at Starcke and Wirtz dams after days of storms.

Heavy rainfall over the past few days is causing the Llano River to flood. According to the Llano County Office of Emergency Management, the river has crested at just over 24 feet. Crews aid the flood has been difficult to predict as it moves at rapid speeds.

Water levels will begin to go down on Tuesday, but will stay well above flood stage for some time.

The water is now making its way from the Llano River downstream into Lake Travis, which is expected to rise up to 3-feet.
