GONZLES COUNTY, Texas – A man has died after what police described as a hunting accident in Gonzales County.

On Sunday, October 7, at 1 p.m. Gonzales County Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to Independence Ranch for reports of a shooting. A 36-year-old man from Houston was found dead with a single gunshot wound to the head.

According to the sheriff’s office, the man was killed when a hunting rifle accidentally discharged. The man’s hunting partner was climbing out of the two-person hunting stand at the time of the shooting.

The case is being investigated by the sheriff’s office. The Travis County Medical Examiner will conduct the autopsy.

The victim’s name will not be released until his next of kin is notified.
