AUSTIN, Texas – A body that was found in Lake Travis Friday morning has been identified as a woman who has been missing since May.

• Body of Rachel Scott found Friday morning
• Witnesses said Scott fell off of a party barge this past May
• Body was discovered 117 feet below the surface

According to Travis County Sheriff’s Office, a dive team located the body of Rachel Scott at approximately 10:30 a.m. CT on Friday, October 5, 2018. The body was recovered from the area of the lake where Scott was last seen, between Volente Beach and Starnes Island.

This past May, friends and other witnesses reported that Scott fell from the top tier of a party barge and struck her head on the lower tier before sliding into the water. Several passengers dove into the water in an attempt to rescue her, but were unsuccessful.

Authorities said the body was discovered 117 feet below the surface, which is the greatest depth at which they recovered a body and the longest length of time from when someone went to missing to when they recovered the body.​ Dark said dive teams were able to narrow their search because of video taken of Scott the day she went missing at Lake Travis on May 19. Authorities said the 25-year-old fell off the second level of a party barge.

“We were able to take that video, freeze frame to that exact moment in time, and using fixed points on the shoreline, were able to come up with an area of the lake that it was most likely she might be," Dark said.

The incredible outpouring of support and prayers from friends and complete strangers in this community has meant so much and continues to help us as we navigate our way through this very sad time. Rachel was our beautiful and loving daughter, sister, granddaughter, niece, and friend. We ask that you honor Rachel’s memory by continuing her legacy of bringing joy and kindness into the world.
