AUSTIN, Texas – The Austin City Council approved a resolution on Thursday to support women's reproductive rights.

The symbolic resolution marks the council members' support for the removal of bans on insurance coverage for abortions.

“Rosie’s Resolution” calls for safe and affordable abortions. The resolution is named after Rosie Jimenez, who died following an unsafe abortion more than 40 years ago.

"As threats to reproductive rights occur at the federal level and at the state level here in Texas, we must remember this tragedy and fight every day to protect and expand our rights," said Kathie Tovo, council member for District 9.

The council passed the resolution unanimously.
