AUSTIN, Texas — The new terminal expansion is underway at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.

The project includes nine new gates, six of which be for international flights. Travelers will also get to check out displays by local artists, and enjoy a patio-like terrace featuring views of the airfield.

ABIA says the expansion is needed to accommodate growth.

"Right now we have over 13 million passengers per year,” Ellen Brunjes-Brandt, the terminal expansion project manager said. “This expansion will bring us up to 15 million annual passengers per year and will provide for increased international flights for the Central Texas region."

The terminal expansion is a $350 million project and is expected to be done in spring of next year.
