AUSTIN -- If you're one of those people who come in for a quick swim every morning, you might want to hold that off for at least another day. Barton Springs Pool is still closed.

Austin Parks shut it down Sunday due to flooding. Since then, the pool has been drained for parks staff to clean up, taking debris out of the pool, scooping up muck and blasting algae off the pool floor and surrounding areas.

Aquatics officials say the clean up takes a bit longer because smaller floods let debris sink into the bottom as opposed to larger floods that sweep them away.

Several swimmers, including Zoey Chanin and Judi Lynn Kelly, woke up early Wednesday hoping that the pool was back open.

"It's disappointing," Chanin said. "I mean, it happens, you know, when the flooding happens it's inevitable, I guess. But, when you wake up first thing in the morning and get excited about jumping in the pool and to find that there's a lock on the door, it's like, 'it's too bad."

Park officials said, weather permitting, the pool should be back open by Thursday.
