AUSTIN, Texas – A South Austin school is issuing a warning after two students were hit by cars.

The students were hit near Akins High School on Old San Antonio Road. According to the school district, the students are reportedly okay.

The road runs parallel to South 1st Street, between the school and the track field. Students walk along that road to get to Southpark Meadows.

The school is asking students not to walk on Old San Antonio Road because it's difficult for drivers to see them.

Police are reminding drivers and pedestrians to use a crosswalk when it's available and take the extra time to cross where it's safe. It is also advised to wear light colored clothing if you're walking when it's dark outside.

Those who regularly walk or bike a night are suggested to buy some reflective gear.
