SAN ANTONIO – Video just released by San Antonio police shows two officers saving a child from drowning.

Police said the child is now okay and has since made a full recovery. The family credits first responders for knowing an important lifesaving technique.

The rescue video released by SAPD Sunday night shows two officers responding to a drowning call that happened last month at a home on the city’s North Side.

The body cam footage shows officers Richard Gonzales and Robert Mount racing to get to a 6-year-old girl. The video shows Gonzales giving CPR to the child.

The family of the child describes her as a strong swimmer who lost consciousness that afternoon after holding her breath too long under water and almost drowning.

“The reason that the child is alive is there was, I believe, he was LVN that was on site that immediately started lifesaving interventions. If somebody had not start CPR prior to getting there this could’ve been a completely different outcome,” said Mount.

The child spent five days at North Central Baptist Hospital. Since then, police say she doing well and is now back home.

The family wants to encourage people to get CPR training, not just for when someone is drowning, but for other emergencies as well.
