AUSTIN, Texas — There's a debate playing out in the race between Senator Ted Cruz and Rep. Beto O'Rourke.

This one involves Willie Nelson.

This week the Texan and country music legend announced he'd be headlining a late September rally for O'Rourke in Austin.

It's the first public concert he's ever headlined for a political candidate, and that has some of Nelson's fans lashing out on social media.

One tweeting, "I am no longer willing to watch that hippie guitarist who supports that damn socialist running for Senate."

We visited the Willie Nelson statue on Lavaca and 2nd Street and there were mixed reviews on the iconic star headline the political rally.
