SAN ANTONIO – It has been 17 years since the Sept. 11 terror attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people when the World Trade Center's famous Twin Towers in New York City were hit by hijacked airplanes, changing the nation forever.

Several events locally and nationwide will honor the lives lost.

President Donald Trump will be speaking at a memorial service in Shanksville, Pennsylvania Tuesday morning, along with First Lady Melania Trump. The location is where United Flight 93 went down. This year, a new tower is dedicated to honor the victims, who stormed the cockpit to try to stop the hijackers.

In San Antonio, firefighters will remember the victims of the tragedy with a tower climb at 8 a.m. Every year the San Antonio Fire Department pays tribute to the 343 firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty that day.

Tags for all of the fallen firefighters will be carried to the top of the Tower Of The Americas. They will climb the stairs twice to symbolize the 110 floors of the Word Trade Center.

The public is invited to come and pay respect.
