AUSTIN, Texas – Drivers who use Interstate 35 should plan to find alternate routes during road closures this week.

I-35 at William Cannon Drive will temporarily close starting on Monday for bridge construction in the area. The closures are from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m.

The construction will impact southbound drivers on Monday and Tuesday. Northbound drivers will be impacted on Wednesday and Thursday night.

To avoid the closuresm drivers are encouraged to travel south to Slaughter or north to Stassney Lane.

The changes are a part of TxDOT’s Mobility 35 Project, which aims to ease traffic congestion on I-35. The construction price tag is $79 million.

Changes include:

  • Widening main lanes and shoulders
  • Extended entrance and exit lanes
  • U-turn bridges on William Cannon Drive and Stassney Lane
