SAN ANTONIO – San Antonio police are searching for a suspect in a shooting that left a paraplegic man in critical condition.

Around 10:15 p.m. Thursday night a 36-year-old man was in a hospital bed in his bedroom when he was shot in the head.

Neighbors said they heard several shots fired. The house appears to have been hit with bullets multiple times.

Neighbors said they believe the man has been a target before.

"I can't tell you if they [were] shooting at my house or the back of the house," neighbor Comido Smith said.

The victim was transported to SAMM-C for treatment. Police were searching for a suspect on Dafoste Street.

Smith said the neighborhood has gone downhill over the years. Thursday's gunfire woke him up.

"Boom! Boom! It wasn't an A-K, 'cause it wasn't rapid fire," Smith said. "They said he got shot in the head."

Smith said the victim was paralyzed in separate shootings about a year ago.

"He was in some type of special chair. He initially got hit over on the heels, you know, somewhere else. And, that's why he really got into the condition that's he's in today," Smith said.
