AUSTIN, Texas -- It's been an ongoing fight for affordable health care for Texas teachers. Despite recent cost savings, officials with the Teacher Retirement System say the program is still facing a shortfall.

Lawmakers heard the concerns Wednesday during a discussion on how to provide long-term funding for TRS-Care, the health care program for retired teachers.

On Capital Tonight at 7 p.m., political reporter Kathryn Gisi breaks down just how much is needed to keep the program afloat.

No ruling in GOP’s latest 'Obamacare' lawsuit

It's the most high-profile lawsuit against Obamacare since President Trump took office. But Wednesday, a federal judge in Texas did not immediately rule on the latest push to end the Affordable Care Act.

Republican Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is leading a 20-state effort to scrap the law that insures 20 million Americans.

Ending it would eliminate protections for those with pre-existing conditions. That's led Democratic opponents -- including the man challenging Paxton -- to protest against the lawsuit. They argue Texans with any pre-existing condition could see the cost of their health care quickly rise.

Candidate Conversation: Mike Siegel

Democrat Mike Siegel is challenging a longtime Republican incumbent in a conservative district.

Siegel is trying to unseat Rep. Michael McCaul in Texas' 10th Congressional district. It's an uphill battle. McCaul won the district by nearly 20 points in 2016.

While TX-10 includes the Austin neighborhoods of Rosedale, Allandale, Crestview and Brentwood, where Siegel's signs can easily be spotted, it's weighted in the Republican-dominated Houston suburbs.

We sit down with Siegel to discuss why he’s running and his strategy to attract voters in a conservative district.
