TEXAS – Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Beto O'Rourke joined The Ellen Show on Wednesday with a special surprise to beat the Texas heat.

O'Rourke discussed his bid to unseat Republican Sen. Ted Cruz with Ellen DeGeneres. Two weeks ago, Ellen tweeted that she wanted to meet O'Rourke after a viral video of him defending NFL players who kneel to protest police brutality.

“I can think of nothing more American than to peacefully stand up, or take a knee for your rights anytime, anywhere, any place,” said O'Rourke.

In a YouTube clip of the episode Ellen asks O’Rourke about his past DUI at the age of 26 and his second chance.

“That mistake did not define me,” said O’Rourke. “I want to make sure that everyone has a second chance. That’s the lesson I take from this and it’s something I want to use as motivation to make things better for others who may have made mistakes in their lives.”

On a lighter note, Ellen then mentions that she lived in Texas for a short time and knows how hot it can get. She showed O’Rourke pictures of him sweating through his 254-county tour across Texas.

Bringing out a special surprise, Ellen said she has the perfect way for O’Rourke to cool down as the race heats up. Ellen then brought out a personalized body fan with O’Rourke’s logo on the front of it.
