AUSTIN, Texas -- The UT system has a new chancellor.

The Board of Regents unanimously voted to appoint James B. Milliken as the 12th chancellor of the UT system on Monday.

Milliken is the former chancellor of the City University of New York, America's largest urban university system.

After the vote Milikian said he is completely optimistic about the future of this country and the future of higher education.  Milliken will replace William McRaven, who stepped down in May.

His first official day as chancellor will be Sept. 17.
