SAN ANTONIO -- Two new elementary schools are ready for the first day of class on the Southside.

The new versions of Vestal and Carroll Bell Elementaries help to modernize the Harlandale school district.

Harlandale voters approved a $64 million bond that included improvement projects across the district. The goal is to make learning places more modern for students and staff. The other night, incoming students and their parents got to check out the new schools.

"The kids and the parents, they were just so lightened up by the whole new environment.  I'm excited to see the ones we weren't able to see at meet the teacher, and to teach, sit and teach in a new environment; to have more space to teach, to have more space to work,” said Regina Aguilar.

Harladale's first day of school is Monday.
