AUSTIN, Texas – Patients at Dell Children's Hospital are now decked out in personalized jewelry bringing smiles and hope.

Dane Short, the CEO of Zymbol, has been traveling to children's hospitals across the country to give necklaces to patients for the past 10 years.

Zymbol makes charms with designs that include every letter of the alphabet and every number hidden within them. The symbol can mean virtually mean anything the wearer wants. Patients were also able to take a few Zymbols to give to family and friends.

The Regala family is hundreds of miles away from their home in Abilene. They have been in the hospital with 9-year-old Dylan since Monday.

"Today has been kind of a hard day from him. He started walking and he was hurting pretty bad and we were trying to just distract him. We just feel blessed and this is just a way for us to remember how blessed we are," said Tara Regala, Dylan's mother.

Dylan chose a green symbol, which means healing. His mother said she chose a symbol to represent the love and support she has received at home while her son recovers.
