HAYS COUNTY, Texas – Students in Hays County will now have to pay money to get their cellphones back if they are caught violating the school’s electronic policy.

Hays Consolidated Independent School District made the decision ahead of the start of school to require payments for policy violators.

If a student is caught using his or her phone in class, he or she will have to pay $10 to get the phone back. Parents can also pay the fee to retrieve their child’s phone.

Students will also have their phones confiscated at school-sponsored events and school-related activities.
