MANOR, Texas – Hundreds of students are heading back to school for a new year in a brand new school.

Manor Independent School District students are setting foot in the new Manor Senior High School on Monday. The new high school is the third for the district and is built differently than the other two.

The principal, Dr. Debra Aceves, said the curriculum is set up so students can train for a specific trade. Classrooms have even been built to go with specific programs.

For example, if a student wants to be a veterinarian, there is a medical clinic set up for him or her to train and learn in. If a student wants to be a lawyer or work in a legal system, there is a classroom set up as a courtroom. There is also a beauty salon for aspiring beauticians.

Aceves hopes this new structure will help make the transition to college, or the workforce, easier.

"We were able to combine our thoughts and figure out what our students really need in order for them to have an advantage with today's ever-changing, global society. So they're not just competing with other schools in the Austin area, but it's nationwide and worldwide," Aceves said.

This year, the high school will have 900 students coming in with a capacity of 1,200. Students in 11th and 12th grade will be the first to walk the halls.
