AUSTIN, Texas -- Austin police reported a man is charged with failure to stop and render aid in connection to a hit-and-run crash that left a woman injured on Aug. 18.

Just before 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning, police said, a woman was struck by a GMC Yukon in the area of Highway 290 and the southbound Interstate 35 frontage road.

A family member of the victim told an officer that she and the victim were walking away from the Terminal 6 bar when an unidentified man asked the victim if she could run fast in heels.

The victim, according to the police report, stated she could, proceeded to run across the roadway and nearly made it across when she was struck by the SUV. She was hit and dragged about 15 feet.

About 20 minutes later, police located the suspect vehicle. It was being driven by 21-year-old Felipe Hernandez. Police said Hernandez told an officer he knew he had hit someone. He further stated, according to police, that he drove through the service road light, made a U-turn and sat in his vehicle crying before returning to the scene.

The victim was taken to a hospital where she underwent surgery.
