SAN ANTONIO – A lockdown was lifted after 6 p.m. Tuesday at the Camp Bullis military facility. The lockdown was prompted earlier in the day as police searched for a suspect.

Joint Base San Antonio reported via Facebook Tuesday evening that the lockdown was lifted. People were advised to stay on hard roads and to not pick up hitchhikers. There was no immediate word about the suspect, however.

Police were called to Shady Lane Drive around 8:59 a.m. after a homeowner called about needing help with tenants of his trailers. The arriving officer found a Ford F-250 with the doors open and a man reportedly hanging out of the truck.

As the officer began to question the man, he immediately ran out of the truck and ignited a police chase. The officer followed the suspect, who jumped into an embankment with bamboo in the Leon Creek area.

The suspect was last seen around the Camp Bullis area, prompting the lockdown. Investigators discovered that the Ford truck the suspect was driving was stolen.

The suspect is described by police as a white male, 6 feet tall with a scruffy beard, reddish brown hair, wearing a black shirt and blue jeans. At this time he is not in custody.

Multiple units set up a tight quadrant around the camp. Military police were assisting Bexar County Sheriff’s deputies along with San Antonio police in the search.

Police did not believe there is danger to the public.
