ROUND ROCK, Texas – Local firefighters are joining California crews working to put out the state’s largest wildfire ever recorded in history.

The Associated Press is reporting the fire has spread to nearly the size of the city of Los Angeles in 11 days as more than 750,000 acres burn.

After hearing their plea for help, Round Rock firefighters answered the call and immediately geared up to head west.

Among Texas firefighters, 20 other counties also deployed extra hands to battle the blaze. The deployment includes firefighters from the Austin Fire Department, the San Antonio Fire Department, the Round Rock Fire Department and the Schertz Fire Department, among many others.

“It’s about neighbors helping neighbors. We call TIFMAS our ‘surge capacity’ for Texas. Guess this time their reach is a bit farther away but we hope to make a big impact in people’s lives,” said Tom Boggus, Texas A&M Forest Service director.
