AUSTIN, Texas – An Austin Independent School District bus driver is in jail accused of sexually assaulting an elementary school student for about three months.

According to the affidavit, 57-year-old Cesar Antonio Maldonado is believed to have carried out the continuous sexual abuse of a child from March 1 through May 23.

On May 29, an AISD police officer was called to 5200 block of Freidrich Lane for a report that a bus driver had touched an underage student inappropriately. The incidents were reported after the victim’s parents noticed out of the ordinary behaviors from their child.

The affidavit states that the child would cry and get upset when it was time to board school bus. Eventually the victim told her parents that the bus driver had “touched” her.

Surveillance video from the bus revealed numerous encounters between the student and the driver. Maldonado was seen inappropriately interacting with the student as soon as the school’s bus monitor would leave, the affidavit states.

During the first police interview Maldonado denied ever touching the student. Then, during an interview with Child Protective Services, the driver confessed to touching the victim.

Maldonado is being held at the Travis County Jail on a $50,000 bond.
