AUSTIN, Texas — A man was arrested for allegedly stealing a vehicle with a 5-year-old girl in the backseat.

According to the affidavit, on Thursday a man went to a residence to purchase a television with his daughter. The man realized he did not have the remote control and went back to the residence. When he came back he left the 5-year-old inside the running vehicle.

While he was waiting at the door, he said he saw a blue Sedan park next to his vehicle and someone got out of the passenger side and into the driver's side of his car. The father then reportedly ran to the front of his vehicle and yelled that his daughter was inside the car.

Police say the suspect, later identified as 19-year-old Randy Nathan Torres, allegedly looked at the child in the backseat before putting the vehicle in drive. The father then jumped out of the way to avoid getting struck by the car.

According to the affidavit, the father chased Torres for two blocks before Torres let the child out of the vehicle. Police said Torres and his 17-year-old accomplice, who was driving the Sedan, fled the scene.

The affidavit Violent Crimes Task Force found Torres and Nunez by using the stolen vehicles OnStar GPS location. When police arrived at the location, they reportedly saw the two suspects taking property out of the stolen car and apprehended them.

Police charged Torres with aggravated robbery and kidnapping.
