AUSTIN, Texas — Some young local boxers stepped into the ring to test their strength thanks to the Austin Police Department.

The Police Activities League held its second boxing show of the year. The league teaches kids ages 8 to 18 boxing and other sports at no cost. The show gave some of the league's fighters a chance to go up against boxers from across Texas.

It was also the first time free sports physicals were offered to boxers and children interested in sports outside of PAL

The City of Austin gives the Police department enough to pay officers for working the league.

The rest is funded through community donations.
