AUSTIN, Texas --  Anyone that is doing some traveling this weekend should know that the Texas Department of Transportation's "HERO" program now operates on weekends.

The free roadside assistance program helps stranded motorists.

If someone runs out of gas on I-35, has a dead battery, or gets a flat tire, the program can send someone to help. Authorities said it is always better to have experts lend a helping hand, especially because trying to work on a car yourself on the side of I-35 can be incredibly dangerous.

In order to request a service, call 512-974-HERO for help.
